The Fun of Planning the Homestead Summit

Updated: Nov 10

We started planning this in March. It was a wild idea that grew out of our Seed Swap event. To our amazement, the team at Lake Metropark Farmpark didn't laugh us out of their offices when we proposed this idea. "I'll see if I can get Joel Salatin," Dawn said with a smirk.

Well here we are. Speakers are confirming nearly every day at this point. Sponsors and exhibitors are getting their space reserved, and the details are coming together. It really is wild.

Perhaps the most exciting part though, is the enthusiasm we are hearing from the community. This is truly a one-of-a-kind event, and people are recognizing that. Joel is a huge draw, and rightfully so. The man oozes information that is forged in decades of experience. But the rest of the speakers are right their with him. While their breadth of information may not come close to his, the depth of detail they each have on their own topic is mind-blowing.

Dawn and I have been at this whole homesteading thing for seven years now (crazy, really), and while we have learned a lot, I think our biggest frustration about the Summit is that we will be working too hard to take it all in. Whether you have a quarter of an acre where you want to produce your own food, or 100 acres for which you want to be a better steward, the Summit will keep you entertained and educated for two very very full days!
